Almost forgot to mention, we're the feature article in the Stranger this week:
The Mansion Family Inside the Beta Society's Creative Fraternity (and Hot Tub)
It's a nice long article that kinda talks up the mansion more than it talks us up.. but still! I'd say that's some pretty decent publicity. |

I’m helping out with these 2 LA-based sites, so if you’re going to Burning Man this year (or know someone who is), here are some eco-friendly links to pass along. Also, if you’re just a person who likes camping or is on the go a lot, ModernLocal.com has solar powered laptop chargers and other cool eco-friendly gear.
Anybody need a green ride from the Reno airport for Burning Man? Check out the BIOBUS (space) SHUTTLE before all the seats are gone! http://www.burncleanproject.org
Also, check out the BM rideshare board. http://www.burningman.com/preparation/resources/rideshare.html
Got all your gear? El Wire Bike Kits, solar backpacks, water bottles... http://store.modernlocal.com/ |

Hats off to Julius Shulman, who died on Wednesday night. LA has lost one of its treasures. |

I play softball every Thursday now! It's pretty cool. With a bunch of people I don't know. I'm supes-competitive, which is cool except for when I wear shorts. I slid into 2nd to break up a double play, which is good; I was wearing shorts and it was a crappy field, which is bad. I scraped my knee up quite a bit. Also, I don't remember Bactine stinging as much as it does right now :'[ I was actually slightly happy to get scratched up, as it has been a damned long time since I've been injured. As the Goo Goo Dolls say, "(I) bleed just to know (I'm) alive." I should get that tattooed somewhere.
Here's a picture of the road rash, for you sick bastards who like to see blood
( not eye safe )
But look! Soon I will have tomatoes :D (unrelated)

High temperatures in the valleys are generally expected to range between 95 and 105 degrees... with Sunday expected to be the warmest day. High temperatures in the Antelope Valley are expected to range between 102 and 110 degrees through Sunday... approaching record levels. |

I know someone just asked a couple days ago, but does anyone want two sweet cats? They're not mine, they're my roommates', but neither of my roommates use livejournal, so I thought I'd post here, too.
Anyway, the cats are Chicken and Grandpa, fixed female and male. Chicken is a chubby shothair tuxedo pattern, and Grandpa is a gray shorthair. They both have gorgeous green eyes. Neither has any real behavioral problems, though Chicken does scratch occasionally. I'm sure you could rename them; they're cats, they don't care. They're both quiet, and occasionally will curl up on the couch with you. Grandpa has this ridiculous way of flopping down on the carpet, like he's saying, "Oh, whatever, screw it!"
I'm moving into a no-pets building (which is why I have no pets). My roommates are cutting costs by moving in with a relative, who doesn't allow cats. They've been trying to find a home for the two cats for months, but it's now approaching our move-out date. I never thought they'd actually send these two babies to the shelter. :( I wish I could take them. I've already tried to convince many of my relatives that they need two more cats. I just really, really don't want them put down. |

I'm moving to Santa Monica from Venice, where I have not had a very good experience with Time Warner (they call their package "All the Best", which has been a joke, and not a funny one!). Do any of you lovely people have a recommendation for internet and cable in Santa Monica? I know it's POSSIBLE that Time Warner's service is better in Santa Monica then it has been in Venice, but I'm not counting on it. Thanks in advance for any advice. |

If anyone was wondering why 14+ police cruisers had a block of 2nd Ave cordoned off here's why: www.kirotv.com
Some places I've lived I've been tempted to do something like that (minus the racial slurs) when some SUV with tinted windows and spinners idles across the street pumping gangsta rap so loud it vibrates my windows when I'm trying to sleep on a weeknight. But, seriously, if you live on 2nd Ave across the street from Lava Lounge, Shorty's, etc. it seems reasonable to just expect it's gonna be loud.
Snark away. |

One sub is opened but never used, the other is still factory sealed. The surround speakers (RS-3) were never opened either. Tha satellites were used gently less than 10 times. PICK UP ONLY in BENSONHURST.
These speakers sound phenominal, but I upgraded to professional studio monitors recently, and have no used to these anyone.
And if you're interested, I also have a Pioneer D509S 5.1 Dolby Digitial/DTS receiver, as well as a Kenwood DD/DTS receiver (sans remote) That I"m looking to get rid of. Everything is in perfect order, and you can find manuals to each and every item you're interested in purchasing by going to the manufacturers website in case of any trouble-shooting.
And if by some chance you're having a hard time finding specs or pictures of said items, try using Google's image searcher. |

I'm thinking about switching cell phone carriers. Anyone here have any good/bad experiences with Sprint, particularly around Culver City, West Hollywood, and that general area? |

$300 couch or spare room for 26 yr old traveling female. (lax, culver city, hollywood, other) Date: 2009-07-16, 11:54PM PDT Reply to: hous-hnsdt-1274211718@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?] traveling stripper and dominatrix looking for a couch to crash on for a month or two, moving from Portland... can't stand it here. No drugs, please... 420 okay. Love cats and dogs and reptiles... would prefer a low drama place where my business is mine and yours is yours and I don't have to worry about someone stealing my meager belongings. Heh... have had some bad experiences in LA. Open to a room, open to paying up to $400/mo. I'm kinda punk, kinda goth, low drama... I had a place, but got flaked on at the last minute, which is just irritating. Am arriving in the beginning of August. Note: I am not a prostitute, so don't ask. Not looking for an 'arrangement' just a couch to crash on or a spare room or something. I'm actually a pretty cool person, just a little cautious, so don't take the bitchy thing too seriously. ^_^ - cats are OK - purrr
- dogs are OK - wooof

NE 125th st & 15th ave ne --to-- 14654 148th Ave. NE, Woodinville, WA 98072 (Sammamish Valley Grange )
I am on a mission to try to get my food handlers permit on Monday, my designated day off. Trip planner will not get me to god damned woodinville. Metro Transit trip planner doesn't even try to get me into woodinville, they give me bellevue, orting and renton as options but none of the street numbers come close to what I am looking for. Community transit says there are no bus stops near the destination, (w/in 1 mile) of the testing center and there fore will not give me a rout. I am willing to walk up to 2 miles as long as I have head phones that'll be a piece of cake. I have zero experience in busing it up North. On the other hand I can sleep walk my way down to Tacoma.
Tuesday's class is offered @ 3100 East Valley Highway Renton, WA 98057. Trip planner only gives me East Vally ROAD as an option. Are those two words so easily interchangeable? Am I SOL till Wednesday? I am trying to lock down a part time job while my other part time job dwindles away.
Are there any commuters from these areas that could lend some insight? |

I'm not 12 and I was offered a paying baby sitting gig. I sat for free a couple times to build up references (to become a nanny) and one of those folks recommended me to someone else and they're asking what I charge.
So all that being said.... what the crap do babysitters charge around here? |

Looking for a travel agent that can help with planning a long-term trip lasting 1-2 years, specifically getting information regarding open-ended airline tickets. Also needs to be knowledgeable about travel with pets.
Or are travel agents a big rip off? Seeking snark, travel agent/travel horror stories. Thanks. |
